The Hoopoe (Upupa epops), is an exotic looking bird that is found across Afro-Eurasia. A remarkable feautre of hoopoe is its distinctive ‘crown’ of feathers. 

They are territorial birds and also monogamous, although the pair bond apparently only lasts for a single season. The nest is in a hole in a tree or wall, with a narrow entrance.

hanno un canto sgraziato ma sono assai belli da vedere. Nella casa di nonna e zia aveva fatto il nido una coppia di upupe. L’ultima volta che li ho visti - quasi due anni fa - erano in quattro, genitori e figli. Spero che il nido sia ancora là. E le upupe pure.
